W 9 For Mac

Having contractor workers throughout the year is excellent for small businesses until tax time rolls around and W-9 forms are missing, outdated or lost in a sea of paperwork. Suddenly, the race is on to get everything together in time to meet IRS deadlines for 1099 delivery.

Jun 27, 2020 The W-9 is an official form furnished by the IRS for employers or other entities to verify the name, address, and tax identification number of an individual receiving income.

To help make this easier, QuickBooks® Online now includes the option for users to invite contractors to fill out their W-9s and sign them electronically, securely inside an Intuit® account. After the contractor follows a few steps, their completed W-9 form is available inside QuickBooks Online. No more chasing after paperwork!

Note: A contractor in QuickBooks Online is a Vendor marked “Track for 1099.” They will show on the vendor list (located under expenses) and contractor list (located under workers). You can add the contact through either list, but it’s best to do so in workers tab for this new feature.

Here’s how it works:

  • In the Workers tab, navigate to contractors and click add a contractor.
  • Enter the contractor’s name and email address, ensure the box is checked to invite them to enter their information, and then submit.

The personal details section will show that we’re waiting for info.

Meanwhile, the contractor receives an email from Intuit telling them that {client’s company name} is using QuickBooks and has invited them to enter their W-9 information.

First, the contractor will be asked to create an Intuit account. This account offers a secure place to fill out the W-9, update it later if needed, and submit it to any other companies they may work with that are using QuickBooks Online and request the form. The contractor will additionally have the option to upgrade this account to QuickBooks Self-Employed at a later time, if desired.

Next, the contractor indicates whether they file using a Social Security number or a Federal Identification Number.

Based on the answer, they’ll be prompted to fill in the fields required for the W-9 form and verify IRS certification questions.

Next, we display a populated W-9 form, ready for electronic signature. DocuSign powers this functionality.

As they follow the prompts to sign, DocuSign will display the option to choose a style font or draw their signature.

Once the contractor accepts and signs the document, the contractor and vendor profile inside QuickBooks Online updates with the address, tax ID and more.

Best of all, the completed W-9 form will be ready to view and download in the documents tab.

We hope you’ll give this a try to save time and energy during tax time or proactively throughout the year!

As of the posting of this tip, the Mac OS 9 downloads on Apple's support site are not fully available.

This tip of a method of obtaining the downloads was suggested by sdfox7. Special thanks to them for decoding

how to discover old downloads.

Locate the support.apple.com website for the download. In the case of most of the system downloads for Mac OS 9, there is this link:

and

In event the link doesn't work, go to http://web.archive.org/ to find it. For this link, the example site is:

W 9 For Mac

If you are looking for the 9.2.2 download, the direct link from that page is

Clicking through

FormW 9 For Mac

First on the page you will find North American English, 9.2.2, 21.3MB.

When you right click, or control-mouse button the download link and select copy link, you obtain:

Edit this link to reveal just the file name and not the path going to it and paste it in your favorite search engine. In this case, the file name is:

Mac_OS_9.2.2_Update.smi.bin

Searching you'll find that this link has that download.

As it happens, the website:

has the download links for all the Mac OS 9 updates and others.

You can use a similar method for many other downloads of older software.

As I also found out, .bin files even Mac OS X 10.9 understands. .smi files Disk utility won't open in Mac OS X 10.9, but it will convert to .dmg files.

If you copy the contents to a USB Flash drive of the same name as the dmg file (without the suffix), it can hold the installer in question and connect older Mac OS 9 machines to run the installer from. Just make sure the USB drive is formatted HFS+ no journaling, or FAT16 and under 4GB in size.

The other thing to note, is that no Mac running Mac OS X 10.3 or higher supports the old style floppy disks of under 1.4 MB. The beige PowerMacs were the last that supported the 800k floppies with the single notch on the the corner. If you have floppies with two notches on either corner of the label, then they are 1.4 MB.

1.4 MB floppy looks like:

400k and 800k floppy look like:

Note how the 800k only has one notch for the write protect tab, and no other opening on the other corner.
